Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B lead nominations for 2021 BET Hip Hop Awards

The 16th annual BET Hip Hop Awards will take place on Oct. 5 at 9 PM ET.

  /  09.09.2021

The nominations for the 16th annual BET Hip Hop Awards have been announced. On Thursday (Sept. 9), BET unveiled the list of nominees for the show, which will take place early next month.

Leading the pack are Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion. The women emcees have both received nine nods, including Best Hip Hop Video and Best Collaboration for their racy hit single, “WAP.” Coming in with the second-most nominations is Drake, who was nominated a total of eight times. The Toronto star — who recently dropped his Certified Lover Boy project — is in the running to win Hip Hop Artist of the Year, Lyricist of the Year, Hustler of the Year and more.

None of his nominations, however, are for the recently-released project, which missed the cut-off date to be considered for this year’s award show.

Tyler. the Creator — who earned four nominations — is among the contenders for Hip Hop Album of the Year. His Call Me If You Get Lost album is up against A Gangsta’s Pain by MoneyBagg Yo; Culture III by Migos; Megan’s Good News; Khaled Khaled by DJ Khaled; J. Cole’s The Off-Season; and 21 Savage and Metro Boomin’s joint project, Savage Mode II.

The 2021 BET Hip Hop Awards, which typically includes performances and cyphers, is scheduled to go down on Tuesday, Oct. 5 at 9 PM ET/PT. In addition to the aforementioned honors, awards will also be given out to artists who reign supreme in the categories of Song of the Year; Best New Hip Hop Artist; Best Duo or Group; Best Live Performer; Best International Flow; Video Director of the Year; DJ of the Year; Producer of the Year; Best Hip Hop Platform; Best Featured Song and Impact Track.
