The genre-bending cut sees production from go-to beatsmith J Melodic.

Back in June, Tierra Whack surprised many by taking to social media to announce that she was done with music, leading many to wonder what might be taking place behind the scenes. Thankfully, it’s clear that the feelings were momentary, as the Philly star has liberated a new single titled “Walk The Beat” — a genre-bending, J Melodic-produced effort that sees her harmonizing about fashion, staying grounded, and more:

“Alexander Wang with that Helmut Lang, ghetto fab so I’m still eatin’ chicken wings, versatile so I can keep switchin’ lanes, I got plenty Janes, I got plenty rings, ain’t nothin’ to a queen, you ain’t said a thing, but that Jim Carrey, but they bite the slang, like to call him, like to listen ‘causе he wanna hang, he was goin’ nuts so I let him hang…”

Back in 2018, Tierra Whack shocked the world with her official debut Whack World, a conceptual release with 15 one-minute songs that came with a matching short film. That project ended up on best-of lists from several publications that year, effectively solidifying her as the next one to watch in music. The following year, she then joined the likes of Blueface, DaBaby, Megan Thee Stallion, Roddy Ricch, (YBN) Cordae, Rico Nasty, and Gunna as the latest inductee into XXL’s Freshman class. Since then, Whack has released an album’s worth of loose cuts to the masses, including “Only Child,” “Clones,” “Gloria,” “Wasteland,” “Dora,” “Peppers and Onions,” and “Unemployed” — she also provided show-stealing verses on tracks like Alicia Keys’ “Me x 7” and Lil Yachty’s “T.D.” Most recently, she revealed a spaced-out visual for the well-received “Link” and showed support for her hometown NBA team with “76.” Hopefully, “Walk The Beat” is only the first of many more drops to come.
