A prayer vigil for DMX is set to take place today (April 5) outside of the New York hospital where he currently remains on life support. According to the Associated Press, the vigil is a coordinated effort between the Ruff Ryders to the Rescue Foundation and the rapper’s family. The vigil will be held at 5 p.m. local time outside of the White Plains Hospital, the family told AP in an email.

As reported by REVOLT, DMX was hospitalized on Friday (April 2) after suffering a heart attack at his home. His attorney, Murray Richman, told NBC News that the 50-year-old was admitted to the ICU and had to be resuscitated and put on life support.

In a statement provided to PEOPLE, DMX’s family asked for prayers and said he continues to face “serious health issues.”

“We ask that you please keep Earl/ DMX and us in your thoughts, wishes and prayers as well as respect our privacy as we face these challenges,” they said.

In an update to The New York Times on Sunday (April 4), DMX’s manager Nakia Walker said he was in a “vegetative state.”

“We’re just praying,” she said, adding that some of his relatives have been permitted to visit him inside the hospital. Walker also noted to BuzzFeed News that DMX has “lung and brain failure and no brain activity.”

DMX’s lawyer was unable to confirm what caused the rapper’s heart attack. TMZ previously reported that DMX suffered a drug overdose, but that has not been confirmed.

Over the weekend, prayers and tributes flooded in from fans and fellow artists.

“The Simmons Family appreciates the overwhelming outpouring of heartfelt love, encouragement, support and prayers for Earl,” DMX’s family said in a statement to TMZ. “Earl is someone whose life and music have been a source of inspiration and strength to so many people around the world. It is reassuring to see his fans return that same passion and energy to him during his time of need.”

We at REVOLT are keeping DMX and his family in our thoughts during this difficult time.
