A Texas man, who surrendered himself to authorities after killing his daughter’s mother, allegedly used dark makeup to disguise himself before carrying out the crime.
According to the Carrollton Leader, Alyssa Burkett was reportedly shot and repeatedly stabbed in front of her workplace in Carrollton, Texas on Friday (Oct. 2). Her co-worker, who observed the incident through the office window, told cops she saw a man dressed in all black walk up to the driver’s side of Burkett’s car before he fired shots into the vehicle.
The affidavit states she was treated by coworkers before she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two bystanders described the shooter as a Black man, but on Monday morning (Oct. 5), after learning there was a warrant out for his arrest, Andrew Charles Beard, a white man and the father of Burkett’s infant daughter, turned himself into cops.
Burkett was given full custody of their child in late September. Her mother, boyfriend and coworker said she was scared of Beard and “believed that he was going to kill her.” Her boyfriend added she believed he was following her as “he seemed to always know where she was.” Cops later found tracking devices on both Burkett and her boyfriend’s vehicles.
Officers executed a search warrant, perused Beard’s pickup truck and home and found the same devices attached to the couple’s cars in addition to a kitchen knife, a screwdriver, a pair of damaged black boots, dark brown foundation and burned makeup wipes with brown residue.
After discovering an abandoned black Ford Expedition, police contacted the registered owner and learned she’d recently sold the vehicle. Since the car was located not too far from Beard’s home, they searched it and found dark colored hair and a dark colored prosthetic beard.
Beard is being housed in the Dallas County Jail where he faces murder charges. His bail is set at $1 million. His and Burkett’s infant daughter is unharmed and in the custody of Texas Child Protective Services.
