Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’re familiar with hip hop super-producer Murda Beatz, who’s earned numerous accolades amongst his peers and is behind a lot of your favorite releases from Drake, Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, Nipsey Hussle, Migos, Travis Scott and many more. This week, the Canadian beatsmith delivers a new single titled “Banana Split,” which sees assistance from Chicago’s Lil Durk and currently-incarcerated Floridian rapper YNW Melly.

Also featuring Swiss producer OZ behind the boards, “Banana Split” shows chemistry between the collaborators, while also giving up one of Melly’s best verses to date:

“Okay, yet I might might agree, I’m bloody and yes I got my degree/

That means I got knowledge on n***as who killin’/

And really got bodies and ‘bout all that body lil’ b***h/

Okay ‘bout that body lil’ b***h, go pop you a molly lil’ b***h/

You say that you with it, I hope that you with it, I hope that you got it lil’ b***h/

Okay, yeah you got it lil’ b***h, I see it, I spot it lil’ b***h…/”

Murda Beatz earned his first Billboard Hot 100 hit with Drake’s “Nice For What,” which is taken from 2018’s Scorpion. He’s also landed on the charts via Nicki Minaj’s “No Frauds,” Migos’ “MotorSport,” 6ix9ine’s “FEFE,” and more. In addition to his deep collection of hits for other artists, Murda Beatz released his own debut project, Keep God First, back in 2016. He then teamed up with Smokepurpp for the well-received Bless Yo Trap. Last year, he earned five Grammy nominations alone, solidifying his positions as one of the biggest producers of his generation.

Prior to the single’s release, Murda Beatz also teamed up with Splice to release his Quarantine Pack, obviously named for the current pandemic. The release consists of different drums — 808s, claps, hats, kicks, snares, and more — that any producer could potentially turn into their own classic production.
