Snoop Dogg says “fuck” the Emmys after nominees of color lose major categories

The emcee wasn’t happy after learning that white actors won in all of the award show’s acting categories.

After POC actors failed to bring home any Emmys in the event’s major categories, Snoop Dogg took to Instagram to express his displeasure with the results. On Tuesday (Sept. 21), the West Coast star shared a photo displaying some of the nominees of color alongside a caption that shared his real thoughts on award shows. “Then U wonder why I say fuck all these bullshit ass award shows,” he wrote. “They not for us. Emmy these nuts in ya mouth.”

As REVOLT previously reported, 49 people of color were nominated for awards at the 2021 Emmys. However, neither of those individuals took home wins in the major acting categories.

The disappointing announcement incited an immediate response from 50 Cent, who declared his support for the NAACP Image Awards. “Listen the Emmys still has a separate bathroom for colored folks,” he wrote in a now-deleted post. “I’m gonna put the NAACP Awards on the air at the same time and fuck up there numbers. No, they really should be afraid of me. I’m different.”

Despite losing major categories at the Emmys, Black creatives were still able to enjoy some memorable moments. After Cendric the Entertainer kicked off the show with a Biz Markie tribute featuring LL COOL J, Lil Dickey and Tom Hanks’ wife, Rita Wilson, “I May Destroy You” star Michaela Coel won the award Best Writing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, and dedicated her speech to survivors of sexual assault.

Debbie Allen was also given the Governors Award for her contributions to the entertainment industry. “I am trembling with gratitude and grace,” she said. “I’m trying not to cry and be equal to the situation because it’s been many years in the making, taking a lot of courage to be the only woman in the room most of the time, a lot of courage and creativity and faith to believe that I could keep going. And I have. And I brought a whole lot of people with me, so I want to say thank you for this glorious moment in the sun.”
