Fans are still giving The LOX their flowers after the New York rap trio’s stellar Verzuz performance against Dipset. While The LOX, and arguably Jadakiss alone, clearly had no trouble stealing the show Tuesday night (Aug. 3), Sheek Louch revealed that a piece of advice from Diddy gave them a competitive edge.

During a recent interview with Shade45’s Sway, Sheek explained that the REVOLT Chairman called up The LOX prior to the battle and encouraged them to include their freestyles in their set.

“Yo, honestly Puff called us like, ‘Yo, dog. Do these freestyles,’” Sheek said around the interview’s five-minute mark. “Puff called us the day of and was like, ‘Y’all come from an era when y’all freestyles are bigger than some of the songs they got... Your freestyles are bigger than a lot of their records.’”

“He told us basically to stick to being you,” Sheek added.

The LOX spitter also told Sway about the group’s preparation ahead of their Verzuz and how they wanted the event to be a true competition rather than a “celebration,” which has been the vibe of several past installments.

“We said, ‘We wanna crush these ni**as.’ ‘Cause the last Verzuz felt like a big concert. Nah, we wanted to show y’all that we them ni**as here, period,” he said.

Despite the obvious competitive spirit, The LOX and Dipset worked together on the backend of Tuesday’s event, Sheek revealed. It was Cam’ron, he said, who negotiated a fair contract for everyone involved.

“Cam was like very influential—he wasn’t going for a certain price, he was on his shit,” Sheek said around the 18-minute mark. “He was like, ‘I need this amount of money, The LOX need this amount of money.’ He was on some shit like that the whole Verzuz shit. He was on some crazy business shit— He knows his shit.”
