The asking price for Philadelphia 76ers forward Ben Simmons reportedly remains very high as NBA Free Agency has kicked off.

According to a Monday (Aug. 2) report from The Athletic, the Sixers are looking for “at least four future first-round picks via direct trade or pick swaps, along with an All-Star-level player in most (but not all) scenarios.” If you follow the NBA, you realize that demand is an enormous one. Depending on how you feel about Simmons, it may or may not be worth it.

The Golden State Warriors were reportedly one team that wasn’t willing to part with such considerable assets. According to a report that was published last week, the Sixers asked for the Warriors’ No. 7 and No. 14 picks in the 2021 NBA Draft, as well as James Wiseman and two future first round draft picks for Simmons. The Warriors reportedly declined the trade offer, and a league executive said that the Sixers were asking too much in a trade for Simmons.

Simmons is coming off of a difficult playoff run in which he struggled to score in crucial moments, owing those issues to a general unwillingness to take perimeter shots, and a seeming refusal to attempt to get to the free throw line, a spot he shot very poorly from. When asked if Simmons could be the point guard for a championship team following their Game 7 loss against the lower-seeded Atlanta Hawks, Sixers head coach Doc Rivers said he “didn’t know how to answer that” question.

While Simmons’ jumper remains an issue, his status as player that can make a positive impact on the game is hard to dispute. With elite athleticism and a stout 6-foot-11 frame, Simmons is one of the NBA’s most versatile defenders. He’s made two All-NBA defensive teams, one All-NBA Third Team and three NBA All-Star games in his career. He is only 25 years old.
