Rudy Giuliani has been temporarily banned from practicing law in New York. According to multiple reports, on Thursday (June 24), the Appellate Division of the New York Supreme Court announced that the former mayor, who now serves as Donald Trump’s lawyer, would be suspended immediately, citing his “false and misleading statements” about the 2020 presidential election.

“We conclude that there is uncontroverted evidence that [the] respondent communicated demonstrably false and misleading statements to courts, lawmakers and the public at large in his capacity as [the] lawyer for former President Donald J. Trump and the Trump campaign in connection with Trump’s failed effort at reelection in 2020,” the suspension order said, adding that Giuliani’s statements fed the narrative that Joe Biden’s victory was solely a result of election fraud.

“We conclude that respondent’s conduct immediately threatens the public interest and warrants interim suspension from the practice of law...” the order continued.

Giuliani may later be reinstated pending the outcome of a full disciplinary hearing.

“We are disappointed with the Appellate Division, First Department’s decision suspending Mayor Giuliani prior to being afforded a hearing on the issues that are alleged,” Giuliani’s lawyers John Leventhal and Barry Kamins said after the suspension announcement.

“This is unprecedented as we believe that our client does not pose a present danger to the public interest. We believe that once the issues are fully explored at a hearing Mr. Giuliani will be reinstated as a valued member of the legal profession that he has served so well in his many capacities for so many years.”

Giuliani’s role as Trump’s lawyer previously resulted in the federal raid of his home and apartment. Per REVOLT, agents executed a search warrant with hopes to look into the former mayor’s business dealings abroad and whether or not he influenced Ukrainian officials to open up an investigation and dig up dirt on Biden during the election.
