Rihanna’s support for the Stop Asian Hate movement continues. On Monday (April 5), the singer was spotted in New York City among a crowd of demonstrators protesting against anti-Asian violence.
Though she appeared to be incognito under her mask and cap, her assistant, Tina Truong, documented the experience in a series of Instagram posts that helped to confirm the singer’s identity and participation in the Stop Asian Hate protest.
Per Truong’s Instagram stories, she and Rihanna started off making signs that included phrases like “#StopAsianHate,” “Everybody vs. Racism” and “Hate = Racism Against God.” Amid the demonstration, the Fenty Beauty CEO was seen dancing with her signs in hand. She also interacted with protesters and appeared to exhange Instagram accounts with one of the demonstrators. Truong later posted photos of her and Rih at the protest.
Rihanna has been using her platform to speak up in support of the AAPI community following the tragic spa shootings that resulted in the deaths of eight people, six of whom were Asian women.
In the wake of the incident, she took to Instagram to address the anti-Asian violence writing, “What happened yesterday in Atlanta was brutal, tragic & is certainly not an isolated incident by any means. AAPI hate has been rampantly perpetuated & it’s disgusting! I’m heartbroken for the Asian community & my heart is with the loved ones of those we lost. The hate must stop.”
More recently, Rih shared a video of actor Daniel Dae Kim passionately expressing his support for the No Hate Bill and Covid-19 Hate Crimes Act.
Rih is one of many celebrities standing alongside the AAPI community following last month’s unprecedented shootings. Megan Thee Stallion recently announced that she and Fashion Nova were donating $50,000 to Asian Americans Advancing Justice — Atlanta, an organization that works to protects the lives of Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders and Native Hawaiians. Jeezy and his wife Jeannie Mai — who is of Asian descent — also launched a wedding charity registry to raise money for supporting members of the AAPI community.
