Drake is adding on to his television and film portfolio. Deadline broke the news on Thursday (April 29) that the 6 God will serve as an executive producer for Spiral, the psychological thriller that stars Selena Gomez. Future the Prince, Drizzy’s friend and manager, will also executive produce the upcoming film.
As reported by Deadline, Spiral will be directed Petra Collins, a Canadian fashion designer who’s making her directorial debut. The film will also be produced by Matthew Budman and Sumaiya Kaveh.
Co-written by Phoebe Fisher, Collins and Melissa Broder, Spiral tells the story of a former internet influencer “whose addiction to social media is causing her body to literally fall apart,” Deadline writes.
Spiral will mark Drake’s third television and film endeavor, following his involvement in the British series “Top Boy” and “Euphoria,” which he and Future the Prince co-executive produce together. Last year, “Euphoria” took home three Emmy Awards out of the show’s six nominations, including Zendaya’s award for Outstanding Lead Actress.
At an Oscars afterparty earlier this month, Drizzy was also spotted hanging out with producer Lena Waithe, Academy Award-winner Daniel Kaluuya and model Winnie Harlow.
Though the Toronto rap star has been busy on the television and film front, fans are still waiting for his sixth studio album, Certified Lover Boy. DJ Akademiks previously announced that the effort would arrive before or during the month of April — a timeline that has obviously passed. Drizzy’s team has yet to share an official album release date.
Due to the delay, one Certified Lover Boy cut actually ended up making its way on Slime Language 2 earlier this month, Gunna revealed.
“Drake had originally sent me the song [“Solid”] for his album and I did it and we was vibing with it for a minute,” he told Billboard. “... His album didn’t come out and I was still vibing with it... And I’m like ‘Shit, bro, I wanna put it on Slime Language 2. Let’s put Slime on it.’ And he was like extra with it and we did and that’s how that came together.”
