After Thursday’s (Jan. 21) Verzuz battle against Keyshia Cole and Ashanti, social media users took to Twitter to speculate suitable contenders for another R&B showdown. Among the many ideas that were thrown around, fans debated most about Justin Timberlake and Usher — a Verzuz even Drake is eager to see.

During an interview on ESPN’s “Jalen & Jacoby,” Timbaland acknowledged fans’ request to see Usher face off against Timberlake, revealing Drake was particularly interested in that matchup.

“Yes, we know,” he said. “It’s so funny, Drake hit me up too about it. He said, ‘We gotta make that happen.’ I said, ‘Soon to come. Soon to come.’”

The Virginia producer — who appeared on the show alongside Verzuz co-founder Swizz Beatz — also confirmed they’re working on a battle between Busta Rhymes and frequent collaborator Missy Elliott.

“It is, to me, the best party that could ever happen on Verzuz,” Tim said. “It’s just a matter of comfort zone of my sister wanting to celebrate with her brother. Understanding that it’s not a competition, it’s a party. I have been talking to her about that, but I think that’s an amazing Verzuz.”

Timbaland and Swizz’s appearance on “Jalen & Jacoby” recently made headlines after it was revealed the Ruff Ryders star wished to create a posthumous Verzuz between two deceased rap legends.

“My dream one, I want to figure out how to do Pac and Biggie in a way that the people is gonna really love it,” Swizz said of his desired battle.

The second season of Verzuz kicked off last week when Keyshia Cole and Ashanti finally went track-for-track in their highly-awaited battle, which went on to set a new Instagram record. It is uncertain when the next Verzuz will be, but with the aforementioned matchups in the works and a confirmation that a UGK and 8Ball & MJG competition is on the way, whatever comes next will be another exciting celebration.
