Swizz Beatz and Timbaland have had great success with their Verzuz platform, but they still have so much more that they want to do. Specifically, Swizz wants to figure out how he can make his dream battle between Biggie and Tupac a reality.
On Friday (Jan. 22), Swizz and Timbaland both appeared on ESPN2’s “Jalen and Jacoby” to talk about Verzuz’s pivot to the sports world for the upcoming Super Bowl. During their conversation, Swizz and Tim were asked to list their “holy grail” Verzuz match-ups. While Timbaland suggested to two icons, Michael Jackson and Prince, Swizz named two other late legends.
“My dream one, I want to figure out how to do Pac and Biggie in a way that the people is gonna really love it,” Swizz said. Timbaland replied with some excitement after hearing Swizz’s top picks. “I got a couple ideas. I’ma text you,” he said.
No matter how Swizz and Tim proceed with the battle, it’s probable that the event will be successful. After finally bringing us Ashanti vs. Keyshia Cole, Verzuz isn’t coming down from its stellar inaugural season. So far, we’ve witnessed memorable battles between Monica and Brandy, Jeezy and Gucci Mane, E-40 and Too $hort as well as plenty more since the beginning of the nation-wide quarantine last year.
In the weeks ahead, we’ll watch Verzuz evolve into a multi-dimensional platform in music and sports. The NFL has teamed up with Swizz and Tim to curate four days full of football-inspired Verzuz battles. During the week of January 26 - 29, fans can watch competitive highlight battles between the most popular players in NFL history.
The battle match-ups will be announced on January 25 and start at 8 p.m. each night. NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders and NFL Network host MJ Acosta-Ruiz will host each battle with a slew of all-star guests.
