It’s Inauguration Day and Michelle Obama did not come to play! The former first lady showed up to today’s (Jan. 20) ceremony alongside her husband, Barack, to support her friend President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris as they were sworn into office, but unbeknowst to her, her ensemble would be the talk of Black Twitter.
“Michelle Obama did what ya’ll wish u could,” one user wrote, while another person tweeted, “Michelle Obama is here to remind you that she’s an icon, she’s a legend, and she will always be the moment.”
Mrs. Obama donned an all burgundy look by Sergio Hudson complete with a turtleneck sweater, belt, slacks and a peacoat, and wore her tresses down her back.
“MICHELLE OBAMA SAID IM GONNA BE SERVING LOOKS TODAY,” read a tweet about Obama’s outfit.
Someone else praised her fashion sense altogether. “Man listen. this drip is DIFFERENT,” the user penned his tweet. “Michelle Obama got #womenswear in a HEADLOCK.”
Obama worked tirelessly during the presidential election, urging people to go to the polls and convincing voters to sway in Biden’s direction. When he was elected the nation’s 46th president, she said she was “beyond thrilled.”
Then today (Jan. 20), ahead of the inauguration, she shared her belief that Biden and Harris would help America turn over a new leaf following Donald Trump’s presidential term.
“After a disturbing era of chaos and division, we are entering the next chapter of American leadership with the inauguration of @JoeBiden and @KamalaHarris. Right now, I’m feeling more than just relief at putting the past four years behind us. I’m feeling genuinely hopeful for what’s to come.”
“Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are the kind of leaders our nation deserves — decent, hardworking people who reflect the best of our values,” she continued. “Most of all, they’re guided by empathy, honesty and a willingness to put the needs of our country before their own. They’re determined to make life better for all Americans, and I know they will bring us back the stability that has been sorely lacking through what has been a devastating pandemic.”
