It is always a beautiful thing to witness when black women are winning in the rap game. Normally we are graced with the presence of stellar R&B talent by way of women of color, but when we are fortunate enough to have an artist like Lakeyah on the scene, the future only looks brighter and brighter. On the same token, the Milwaukee-bred artist is already going down the right path by linking with the living legend DJ Drama for the release of her new effort My Time, a Gangsta Grillz special edition. While she is one of the select few talents that has been solid enough to work with Mr. Thanksgiving, the Quality Control artist is just getting started and doesn’t plan to pump her brakes any time soon.

If you are a true fan of hip hop, primarily the mixtape culture, you know the type of weight DJ Drama’s name holds. He’s only the undisputed, greatest mixtape DJ to ever live but that’s another story for another day. Once upon a time long before the streaming era, you weren’t officially stamped as an artist if you didn’t get a proper Barack O’Drama cosign on a Gangsta Grillz mixtape. Although times have changed drastically since his mixtape runs with Lil Wayne, Jeezy, Gucci Mane, T.I. and more, that sentiment still holds a significant value to those who know what the deal is.

Serving as the follow up to her 2020 effort In Due Time, My Time will end up being considered one of the most defining moments in Lakeyah’s career and we’re here for it.

Seeing as though she’s only 19 years old, Lakeyah has a bright future ahead of her with Quality Control and this mixtape is just what needed to wake up anybody who was sleep on her until this very moment. Tap in to My Time and put your friends on game while it is still early on.
