Last year, Royce da 5’9” delivered one of the best hip hop albums out with The Allegory, a largely self-produced effort that saw additional features from Vince Staples, G Perico, T.I., Cyhi The Prynce, Westside Gunn, Conway The Machine, Benny The Butcher, Oswin Bejamin, Ashley Sorrell, Sy Ari Da Kid, DJ Premier, fellow Slaughterhouse alum KXNG Crooked, and more. This week, the Detroit legend drops off a new visual from that project for “I Don’t Age,” a standout cut that acts as a reminder for those who need a reminder of Royce’s lyrical abilities:
“Dollar short from acquirin’ no change, started out with no shame, to ridin’ ‘round in Mulsanne, tolerance high, feel no pain, cotton mouth with thots who got the code names, I remember nodding’ out, too high, just watchin’ ‘Soul Train,’ now I’m yachtin’ out the boat brain, hunnid thousand dollar gold chain/”
The Joe LeFleur-directed video starts with Royce pulling up to a house in a Rolls Royce, with the purpose of creating music within the residence using his own equipment. Interspersed with that are scenes of an apparent adult video being shot, other individuals smoking, drug dealers at work, a dice game in session, and more. Crooked also makes a noted cameo in the clip.
“I remember us getting in the studio with Pharrell ... We did a song called ‘She The One,’ me and Marshall did it over a Neptunes beat. I think it may have been on YouTube or something, it’s never been officiall: released. And we also got in the studio together for the [Any Given Sunday Soundtrack].’
