Back in July, Dutch-Sudanese songstress Gaidaa released her Overture project. She has now unleashed a visual for on of its stand-out cuts “Stranger,” which features assistance from Saba and Jarreau Vandal. On the song, Gaidaa delivers an introspective hook about evolving as you grow:

I feel like a stranger, trying to face what’s left of my own, and there is no later. Too many changes, I’m trynna grow/ I thought I knew, all the colours and the hues. Thought I had it figured out/ Cause in my head it seemed so true. But I really don’t. There’s so much left untouched, Still figuring out what, but I’m closer than I was. Feel like I stopped running away, once I recognised my own face/ In too deep. We’re stuck in this maze/

The new visual is an intentional love letter to her younger self, as it shows a representation of ones true roots. “The video tries to show me reflecting on my own idea of who I would be when I grow up, and how the projections I may have placed on myself played out in reality,” Gaidaa says about her thought process behind the visual. “The video is one straight take without any cuts, to me representing the idea that we are in an ever evolving ongoing process. Having the younger me in the video was to emphasize that though we may be looking for who we are… we find that the root of who we are remains.”

Gaidaa most recently teamed up with global creative platform COLORSxSTUDIOS for the release of the special live EP, COLORS Live in NYC, recorded at the platform’s inaugural live event in New York where she took the stage alongside Kojey Radical and Dua Saleh marking the rising star’s debut live US performance.
