It’s been two years since Masego released his official debut album Lady Lady, a genre-bending body of work that saw 14 tracks and appearances from SiR, Tiffany Gouché, De’ Wayne Jackson, and FKJ. Since then, the Virginia native could be seen collaborating with the likes of The Game, Kaytranada, Smino, Kehlani, and Ro James. Currently, he is said to be putting the finishing touches on his sophomore follow-up, and has already blessed his fans with the singles “King’s Rant” and “Veg Out (Wasting Thyme).” Now, he brings forth the track “Passport,” which sees production from D’Mile and centers around Masego’s wish to leave home and travel the globe — something that many of us can certainly relate to:

“I can’t wait to get out, things are lookin’ too familiar, so I’m out, flying south, might just go and get new hair, turn off my phone ‘cause I’m new here, don’t walk alone ‘cause my crew here/

We’re breathin’ in this new air, and I don’t wanna think about, where we’d be if we stayed, that same route everyday, shipyard every day, and I ain’t tryna do that for my life, so I just saved up to change my life, ultimatum, I paid for the flight…/”

The track also comes with a “visualizer” that sees a well-dressed Masego out in a forest, relaxing, smelling flowers, and otherwise adding to the overall vibe of the inspirational cut.

In addition to the music, Masego has also been dropping a slew of short vlogs for his fans, mainly for the purpose of explaining the backstories to certain songs. He also participated in this year’s virtual BET Awards, giving the viewers a dope rendition of his popular cut “Queen Tings.”

Press play on Masego’s “Passport” below. Judging from a recent social media post, fans can probably expect more from him in the near future.
