G-Eazy’s been experimenting with some different sounds, to say the least. Today, the Bay Area star releases his fifth studio LP Everything’s Strange Here, a psychedelic trip through folk, EDM, rock, blues, and more. He announced the project last month via social media, along with a message about its creation:
“8 weeks ago I didn’t know I needed to make this. The world has been turned upside down and inside out – but a lot of us have had the opportunity to self reflect and evolve. This project is a representation of where my heart and head have been at. It’s honest and pure – it’s me. Take it or leave it – this is how I feel.”
Everything’s Strange Here sees 10 tracks and few features, with Kossisko and Ashley Benson making an appearance on “All The Things You’re Searching For.” Beatsmiths on the project include Marshello, Austin Ward, Cole MGN, Christoph Andersson, Dakari Gwitira, and G-Eazy himself, making for a genre-bending body of work for his fans to enjoy. Everything’s Strange Here isn’t completely devoid of hip hop, though — the final track, “Had Enough,” is a presumed letter to G-Eazy’s ex-girlfriend Halsey and is almost reminiscent of renaissance-era Kanye West in both lyrics and production:
“Talking ‘bout my crazy-ass ex, somehow I still failed her last test, few years the last time we had sex, so why you call me trippin’, all mad pressed?/
All them lies that you was tellin’ on me, hopin’ I lose, you hope an L is on me, she would tell anybody, she’d go and tell her homie, she would go on TV, she’d go on Ellen on me/
Send them shots, just know I’m hard to kill, put away feelings I used to feel, so sick, you know what? The part that’s ill, watch out, remember, karma’s real…/”
