It’s been some months since Miguel released his Spanish EP Te Lo Dije (or Told You So), which saw reworked versions of War & Leisure cuts along with assists from C. Tangana, La Flor de Toloache, and Kali Uchis. Now, he has announced a new EP titled Funeral, and has liberated a visual for the track of the same name.
Produced by Deion of Ghoss and Aleksei Savchenko, the track blends in R&B and electronic vibes while Miguel gets on his best adults-only, hedonistic flow:
“I wanna dive in you tonight, wouldn’t that be special? ’Cause you’re so f***ing special, and that p***y ain’t a rental, I wanna get you so high, ’til you feel it in your mental/
Do you feel me in your mental? I’m f***ing drilling in your dental.../”
The black-and-white video comes courtesy of Philippa Price and Nina McNeely and seems to take on a goth atmosphere this side of Marilyn Manson. The clip also mixes sexual and religious themes, with Miguel being crucified on a mattress while near-nude woman pose in front of him, while even more of those women pray around him as he lays in a coffin. Very rock-and-roll, indeed.
Miguel’s last studio LP, the aforementioned War & Leisure, was released in 2017 and saw 12 tracks with features from Rick Ross, Travis Scott, Quiñ, J. Cole, and more. That project earned Miguel within the top ten of the Billboard 200 thanks to 40,000 album equivalent units sold during its first week out, eventually landing the California singer a Gold plaque.
Recently, Miguel was also a performing artist for Rihanna’s “Savage x Fenty Show Vol. 2” event that premiered on Amazon Prime. In addition to his significant other Nazanin Mandi, Miguel was joined by the likes of Rico Nasty, Big Sean, Ella Mai, Mustard, Lizzo, and loads more.
