Key Takeaways

Serayah and Joey Bada$$ won’t be headed down the aisle anytime soon, much to the internet’s disappointment. On Monday (Aug. 24) morning, the Ruth & Boaz actor revealed that she decided to part ways with Joey a little over a year after announcing their engagement.

“There comes a point in a woman's life when choosing herself is no longer an option. It becomes necessary…,” Serayah wrote in a statement shared via Instagram, adding that she made the “difficult decision” to end both her engagement and relationship with Joey, with whom she shares a son. The “I Choose Me” singer continued, “I loved deeply, believed wholeheartedly in the life we were building, and wanted nothing more than to protect our family.”

“Unfortunately, I also had to face a painful truth: there had been repeated infidelity throughout our relationship, including during some of the most vulnerable and meaningful moments of my life,” the post read.

“I share this not for sympathy, retaliation, or to publicly tear anyone down. I share it because too many women are taught to question themselves before they question what is happening right in front of them. If your intuition is telling you something is wrong, listen to it,” she went on to write. Further down, Serayah stressed that she’ll “always respect” that they share a child and that her priority will be “protecting his peace, privacy, and relationship with both of his parents."

“This chapter did not end the way I prayed it would. But endings can also be beginnings,” the Best Friend star concluded. Read her full statement below, then keep scrolling for more about Serayah and Joey’s relationship.

A brief timeline of Serayah and Joey Bada$$’s relationship

For anyone wondering how Serayah and Joey got here, the two first met at a mutual friend’s birthday party in 2021 before she starred in his “Show Me” music video two years later. In June 2023, the 1999 rapper confirmed their relationship during a beach getaway, People reported.

The couple later welcomed their baby boy in June 2025. The new addition to their family made Serayah a first-time mom and Joey a father of two, given he already has a daughter from a previous relationship. In a two-month postpartum update, the actress said she was in “total disbelief” over becoming a mother and gave her then-fiancé plenty of praise for being there every step of the way: “My fiancé has held it down, you hear me! Through and through, that’s a good man, Savannah.”

The pair had really great chemistry, and we certainly didn’t mind seeing them put Black love on full display at award shows and other public events. Whatever comes next, REVOLT is wishing Serayah and Joey nothing but the best as they navigate being single and raising their child together!
