The first footage from “Bel-Air” was shared on Monday (Jan. 10) in a new trailer for the anticipated reboot. The Peacock series, which is a dramatic remake of the popular Will Smith-fronted “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” airs on the platform next month.
In the new trailer released on Monday, fans got a first look at some of the show’s cast, including Jabari Banks, who stars as Will; Adrian Holmes; Cassandra Freeman; Olly Sholotan; Coco Jones; Akira Akbar; Jimmy Akingbola; Jordan L. Jones and Simone Joy Jones.
The trailer begins with Will receiving a piece of advice about his new Los Angeles dwellings: “This town will try to make you forget who you are and where you came from,” his best friend Jazz says. “Don’t let it do that.”
The hour-long “Bel-Air” is based on Morgan Cooper’s popular fan film of the same name that reimagined the original “Fresh Prince” with a dramatic twist. Cooper serves as director, executive producer and co-writer for “Bel Air,” which hails from Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith’s Westbrook Studios and Universal Television. The show has already been renewed for a second season.
On Twitter, fans of the original “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” reacted to the upcoming reboot.
“I’m a lil conflicted on this,” one person tweeted alongside the “Bel-Air” trailer. “It looks interesting but I liked the fun nature of ‘Fresh Prince.’ Def gonna check it out… what ya’ll think?”
Others were not here for the dramatic changes.
“Taking a beloved, lighthearted, comedy from the 90s and making it a DARK EDGY REBOOT is the most 2020s thing they could’ve done,” one person tweeted. “Look, ‘Fresh Prince’ dealt with some heavier material from time to time, but at its core it was just about family. IDK what this is supposed to be.”
Others online were excited about the reboot.
“This actually looks 100 times better than the original ‘Fresh Prince’ oh my,” one person tweeted.
The first three episodes of “Bel-Air” will premiere on Peacock on Feb. 13 with new episodes of the show airing weekly on the platform. See the trailer and reactions on Twitter below.
