It’s been over a year since 21 Savage and Metro Boomin liberated their chart-topping success Savage Mode 2, the sequel to 2016’s Savage Mode. That project saw 15 hard-hitting cuts and additional features from Drake, Young Thug, and Young Nudy. Savage Mode 2 further solidified both talents as two of the best in the game, landing them at the top spot on the Billboard 200 thanks to 171,000 album equivalent units sold during its first week of release — the album has also crossed the Gold mark. Since then, the Atlanta emcee has continued to remain a rap frontrunner by releasing an EP in support of the film Spiral and contributing spotlight-stealing verses for songs by T.I., Drake, YBN Nahmir, Pooh Shiesty, DJ Khaled, G Herbo, and more.

Just before the new year arrived, 21 Savage decided to bless us with a couple of new tracks — hopefully as a way to prepare us for a new body of work. The first is the Cardo and Deats-produced “No Debate,” which sees the rapper in a stream of consciousness about the streets, inner demons, his detractors, and more:

Niggas go to switchin’ sides, bitches go to switchin’ sides, my lil’ brother walkin’ on crutches, but he still’ll ride, I can’t find the words to describe what I feel inside, go against the gang, you ain’t heard? That’s like suicide, pillar box, grab a Glock, spray a block, that’s how we slide, spin that bitch again, nigga, we don’t care ’bout who done died…”

The second song, the Kid Hazel-produced “Big Smoke,” keeps with much of the same subject matter:

“AK, double clip, one in the tip whenever I slide, he exposed his hand talkin’ to hoes, we killed two of his guys, I had a load of Reggie, but it was a drought, so niggas gon’ buy it, you really feel like I’m pussy? I stay in the street, nigga, come on and try it…”
