Netflix has unleashed the first trailer for the Kanye West documentary “Jeen-Yuhs.” The film, which is directed by Coodie Simmons and Chike Ozah, is an intimate portrait of the global superstar’s meteoric rise to fame.

The documentary, according to Variety, is presented in three parts. Jeen-Yuhs will feature behind-the-scenes footage of West, and his peers, circa his The College Dropout days. Variety reports that the doc will touch on ‘Ye’s 2020 presidential bid, his fashion endeavors, and the death of his mom, Dr. Donda West.

The two-minute First Look clip Netflix shared Saturday (Sept. 25) features ‘Ye and Mos Def, in 2002, rapping their verses from “Two Words” — their collaboration that appears on Yeezy’s The College Dropout album. Coodie and Chike have reportedly been working on this project for years. Coodie is believed to have footage of West from as early as 1998. And the duo previously directed some of ‘Ye’s first music videos, including “Jesus Walks (Version 3),” “Two Words,” and “Through the Wire.”

Billboard reported in April that Netflix had purchased the documentary from Coodie and Chike’s Creative Control company for around $30 million. The doc was also produced by TIME Studios — which produced the Emmy-winning film Space Explorers: The ISS Experience. Fans looking for more information regarding the upcoming documentary can visit Jeen-yuhs.com, a site currently being promoted on Coodie and Chike’s Creative Control IG Stories.

The interactive site features more home video style footage of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony in Cleveland and a passionate debate about the direction of Chicago hip hop. There are also words like “awakening,” “purpose” and “vision” that flash on the screen. Oddly, a visual on the site in bold letters reads, “Not a doc about Kanye West.” Nevertheless, Netflix has announced Jeen-Yuhs will premiere on its streaming platform in 2022.
