Sept. 16 will now be known as Gunna Day in South Fulton, Georgia. The city, which neighbors the rapper’s birthplace of College Park, has benefited from Gunna’s philanthropic and community efforts, Mayor William “Bill” Edwards said on Thursday.

“I hereby proclaim Sept. 16 as Sergio Giavanni ‘Gunna’ Kitchens Day in the City of South Fulton,” Mayor Edwards said.

An official proclamation noted Gunna’s charitable efforts, such as his Gunna Great Giveaway Foundation and outreach to local schools, as well as his successful career as a “rapper, songwriter and fashion influencer.”

“Being raised by a single mother along with his four brothers, Gunna began his journey as a rapper at a very young age… influenced by the hardships his family had to endure,” the document read.

“… Just like the Phoenix, rising above the ashes of adversity, Gunna is committed to giving back to the community that raised him, buffered him, sheltered him and supported him by creating Gunna’s Drip Closet and Goodr Grocery Store, which is set to provide students of McNair Middle School with access to free meals, clothing and toiletries for years to come.”

The proclamation added, “Since 2018, through his Gunna Great Giveaway Foundation, Gunna has exhibited his efforts to serve the greater good, by hosting free grocery stores in the community and providing over $100,000 in gift cards to families during the pandemic and supplied thousands of families in Houston, Texas with household items after the 2021 historic winter storms.”

“… The mayor and city council recognize Gunna for his service to the community, applaud his outstanding contributions to the music industry [and] acknowledge him for setting a stellar example…” it concluded.

Gunna shared a photo of the proclamation and his video with the mayor on Instagram. “Thank You,” he wrote. “#GunnaDay.” See his post below.
