Jaykae sends for Wiley with “Act Your Age!”

The track seems to have spawned from comments made by Wiley about Birmingham on social media.

It looks like the rivalry between Jaykae and Wiley has once again returned to the surface. Over the past few years, the two emcee have traded words on both social media and wax, with Jaykae delivering “SHUSH” back in 2019. Earlier this month, Wiley began calling out Jaykae’s hometown of Birmingham for a clash, which let to a pretty scathing response from his grime counterpart. Wiley then appeared to follow that by delivering a warning for anyone in that city who’s looking to go up against him on the microphone:

“Ay, Birmingham versus London, wagwan, I’m here, we’re in Birmingham, let’s sort this out .. at Jaykae, you’ve been hiding since the moment I got here, I’m not gonna lie … you can’t clash me. I don’t care what you and your London mates have been talkin’ about. You can’t clash me, I will murk you.”

Fast forward to earlier this week (Sept. 8), when Jaykae decided to get the proverbial party started with “Act Your Age!,” a hard-hitting grime effort that sees him sending shots at Wiley with some of his best bars to date:

“So what you wanna draw me out like an animator? Man might snap like an alligator … you can’t push my buttons like an elevator … Wiley’s a snake, I can never rate that…”

It’s been four years since Jaykae liberated his last body of work Where Have You Been?, an eight-track offering that saw additional features from S-X, TiGA, YASeeN RosaY, and Murkage Dave. That’s not to say that he’s been dormant since — the Small Heath talent has continued to deliver top quality singles and collaborations like “Heartache,” “On The Way Home” with Aitch, “Chat” with Local, and “Froggy 2” with fellow Brum star Dapz On The Map. More recently, Jaykae blessed the masses with “Chop (Henry the 8th)” and the Jorja Smith-assisted “1000 Nights,” building hope that a new project might be on the way.
