Janet Jackson has shared the first look at her forthcoming biopic, JANET. The 55-year-old superstar shared the film’s trailer in a tweet on Monday (Sept. 6), writing, “Hey u guys. Excited to share the first teaser of my new documentary with u.”

The one-minute trailer pieces together behind-the-scenes footage from Jackson’s life and career and promises fans an “unfiltered” look at the legendary singer with “unseen personal footage.”

“This is my story told by me. Not through someone else’s eyes,” Jackson says in the teaser between lyrics from her 1986 song, “Control.” “This is the truth. Take it or leave it. Love it or hate it. This is me.”

JANET. will also feature interviews with some of Jackson’s close friends, colleagues and family members, such as Missy Elliott, Mariah Carey and Paula Abdul.

“You are the BluePrint of what a SuperStar is!” Elliott commented on the tweet. “40 years in the game & still counting! You are UNBREAKABLE! I Love you Jj you already know.”

JANET. is set to premiere on Lifetime and A&E in January of 2022. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the biopic has been five years in the making and is executive produced by Jackson and her brother Randy. Ben Hirsh is directing the film while A&E Networks’ Brie Miranda Bryant and Workerbee’s Rick Murray serve as co-producers.

As reported by REVOLT, JANET. will not only span across Jackson’s incredible career, but will also cover her life as a mother, the death of her brother Michael and father Joseph and more. The film was previously billed as a two-night “event” that will offer “full unprecedented access to the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer’s life” and provide an “intimate, honest and unfiltered look at the untold story of one of the highest-earning artists in music history.”
