Presumably, Joyner Lucas is making a slow and calculated creep towards a new album release date. Thus far, we’ve already received the top quality single “Ramen & OJ” with Lil Baby, and a sickening freestyle over Pooh Shiesty and Lil Durk’s “Back In Blood.” Lucas’ even contributed to Space Jam: A New Legacy with the inspirational “Shoot My Shot.”
Yesterdat (August 25), the Massachusetts emcee added to the above with “Dreams Unfold,” a YenEuroDollar, Palaze, and LukasBL-produced offering that features Lil Tjay and sees the collaborators harmonizing about past struggles and current successes:
“I’m way too lit up in that hoe, heart so hard, I get that dough, they want work, come get that smoke, hop out the trunk, you hear that blow, that’s your bitch, come get that hoe, she wan’ suck me, get that throat, I’m way-way up, don’t give no fucks, I lost my heart, like ‘Where that go? This ain’t no game, I’m in that zone…”
As expected by Lucas, the accompanying visual for “Dreams Unfold” immediately sets itself apart from others with its creativity. Beginning with a disclaimer, the clip immediately begins to show children watching warped versions of normally tasteful shows like “Booze Clues” and “Blippi.” Elsewhere, Lucas and an elf re-create Bad Santa while Tjay roams through different colored rooms while bikini-clad women dance around — all in front of the kids’ wide-eyed shock and amazement. It’s almost reminiscent of trolling seen during Eminem’s brilliant Slim Shady LP era.
Back in October, Lucas’ liberated his latest project Evolution, a 13-song body of work that saw additional contributions from The Game, Ashanti, Elijah James, and more. The last couple of videos from Evolution for the Rick Ross-assisted “Legend” and “Zim Zimma” — which starred Mark Wahlberg, George Lopez, and Diddy — made landfall in May and June, respectively.
