With Verzuz proving to be culturally relevant well beyond the days of quarantine, questions and pitches about future battles continue. During a recent interview, Power 106’s DJ Carisma asked Bas to choose his desired matchup for the Dreamville roster.

“Five to ten years from now, if Dreamville were to do a Verzuz, who do you think would be a worthy competitor?” Carisma asked, to which the emcee responded, “It’s gotta be TDE, right? That’s family, but it’d be good competition, for sure.”

Helmed by J. Cole, Dreamville is made up of the North Carolina emcee, J.I.D, Bas, EarthGang, Cozz, Lute and Omen, and R&B songstress Ari Lennox.

TDE, on the other hand, consists of ScHoolboy Q, Jay Rock, Isaiah Rashad, Ab-Soul, SiR, Reason, Zacari, Lance Skiiiwalker, Kendrick Lamar and SZA. A potential competition would see the crews — who have collaborated with each other — come together to play their best hits in front of thousands of their fans, and would join the list of previous battles that featured groups with years-long careers and impressive discographies.

In the earlier days of Verzuz, for example, Jagged Edge and 112 went head-to-head though technical difficulties got in the way. This year, however, after the platform was acquired by Triller, quality improved, and the legendary Isley Brothers battled Earth, Wind & Fire. SWV later went against Xscape, bringing fans the sounds of 90s R&B, and most recently, The LOX and Dipset put on for New York during a Verzuz competition that is still a highly-discussed topic among hip hop fans.

Though Bas believes a TDE and Dreamville Verzuz would be a great one, the competition is only an idea and has not yet been announced or confirmed. “We gotta solidify everything,” he told Carisma.
