21 Savage gave back to the children in his native neighborhood over the weekend. On Sunday (Aug. 1), the Atlanta rapper returned to Decatur, Georgia to host his sixth annual Issa Back 2 School Drive.

With help from his Leading By Example Foundation, Momma Flystyle, Dekalb County, and Cosmopolitan Night Club, he secured sponsorships from Chime, Juma.org, Amazon Music and Reebok, and blessed 1,500 students and families with shoes, headphones, uniforms, back-to-school supplies and financial literacy resources.

The members of the community also had access to food, including BBQ, cotton candy, popcorn and Italian ices, and entertainment like gaming trucks, bounce houses and a basketball hoop.

The back-to-school drive aligns with 21 Savage’s charitable spirit. In 2018, the rapper launched a financial literacy program titled after his hit song “Back Account” with intentions to teach teenagers across the country how to manage their money. Roughly two years later amid the COVID-19 pandemic, he collaborated with mobile banking provider Chime and education technology platform EVERFI and announced a virtual version of the course — The Bank Account At Home program — which offered kids of different ages lessons on basic money management concepts, budgeting, entrepreneurship and more.

21 Savage’s other generous efforts consist of Halloween parties and a partnership with Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms that saw the two give underprivileged students free WiFi and tablets. Additionally, the emcee previously offered a hundred $1,000 scholarships for high schoolers across the US and donated $25,000 donation to Atlanta’s #ATLStrong COVID-19 relief fund.

“I feel like it’s important more than ever to give our next generation the tools to succeed in life,” he previously told USA Today of his efforts.

As 21 Savage helps students prepare for the school year, he is most likely getting ready to take multiple stages alongside J. Cole and Morray during the Off-Season Tour, which is set to kick off next month.
