The Philadelphia 76ers want a massive haul for Ben Simmons, but the Golden State Warriors reportedly thought the team asked for too much.

According to a Thursday (July 29) report from The Philadelphia Inquirer, the Sixers tried to trade Simmons to the Warriors for Andrew Wiggins, James Wiseman, the No. 7 and No. 14 2021 NBA Draft picks and two future first round draft picks. Needless to say, the price for Simmons was enormous. The Inquirer says the Warriors weren’t going for it.

Simmons reportedly hasn’t been in contact with the Sixers during the offseason, and following a disappointing run in the 2021 NBA playoffs, there were serious doubts about whether he would be wearing a Sixers jersey next year.

The Sixers have been doing their best to get a worthwhile return for Simmons, but one NBA team executive says the team have been putting together “totally outlandish offers.”

While the offers could be considered extreme, Simmons is undoubtedly a valuable asset. At the age of just 25, he has three NBA All-Star game selections and multiple appearances on All-NBA defense teams. In 2020, he was named to the All-NBA Third Team.

The deal the Sixers apparently want for Simmons is a massive one, even considering other huge trades in the recent past. The fact that he’s still got four years left on his contract should theoretically give the Sixers some leverage, but thus far, the team reportedly hasn’t found a deal they’re satisfied with, and teams haven’t been willing to meet their demands.

According to The Action Network, the Sixers previously tried to trade Simmons for the Toronto Raptors’ Kyle Lowry, Fred VanVleet, OG Anunoby and the No. 4 overall pick in tonight’s NBA Draft. The Raptors also reportedly declined.

At this point, where Simmons ends up is anyone’s guess. With the 2021 NBA Draft set to begin at 8 p.m. EST tonight, fans might get an answer very soon.
