Jurnee Smollett scored her first Emmy Award nomination on Tuesday (July 13) for Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her starring role on HBO’s “Lovecraft Country.” On Twitter, fans and fellow actors celebrated the 34-year-old’s achievement.

“My friend [Jurnee Smollett] — congratulations on your #EmmyNom. So happy for you!” “True Blood” star Adina Porter tweeted.

Despite not being renewed for a second season, “Lovecraft Country” racked up a whopping total of 18 nominations for the 73rd Emmy Awards, which were revealed in full on Tuesday. The Misha Green-helmed series also gave way to a Lead Actor in a Drama Series nomination for star Jonathan Majors; a Supporting Actor in a Drama Series nod for Michael K. Williams; and a nomination for Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for Aunjanue Ellis.

TV shows “The Crown” and “The Mandalorian” led the score with 24 nominations each and other series such as “WandaVision,” “Ted Lasso” and “The Handmaid’s Tale” also came up strong.

With its multiple Emmy nominations, “Lovecraft Country” fans once again questioned HBO’s decision not to renew the series.

“‘Lovecraft Country’ cleaned up at the Emmys and HBO canceled it after one season. Make it make sense,” one person tweeted.

As reported by REVOLT, Cedric the Entertainer will host the 73rd Emmy Awards, which will be held in-person this year at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sept. 19 at 8 p.m. EST. The ceremony will reportedly be broadcast live on CBS and can be streamed on Paramount+.
