REVOLT.TV is home to exclusive interviews from rising stars to the biggest entertainers and public figures of today. Here is where you get the never-before-heard stories about what’s really happening in the culture from the people who are pushing it forward.

With nearly all restrictions of the pandemic lifted, we are all finally able to scratch the itch of wanting to go outside and make new experiences. As we try to get back to some type of normalcy, REVOLT brought back “SoundCheck,” a show curated that highlights rising stars.

In collaboration with Soho Works and Footlocker, REVOLT welcomed RCE Nation, an event production company to host their “Family Reunion” series. Taking place in West Hollywood’s Soho Works, “SoundCheck” welcomed artists Riley, Gwen Bunn, George Lovett, and Kenyon Dixon with sounds from DJ R-Tistic, an amazing band, and saxophonist. Also to seal the deal, catered food and intricate art pieces from artist Kyle Jordan was present. “A lot of the art I showed at the event was inspired by the Black American experience and image,” he told REVOLT.

RCE founders followed the celebration of Black Music Month by naming this in-person show the “Black Voices Edition.” Dom O’Bannon of Soho Works, and Craig Posey and Ryan Houston of RCE explained why events like this as well as having the support of one of the biggest Black music sources matters. “We believe it is extremely important to create platforms for Black creators to express themselves and shine because there just are not enough spaces created for us — the Black community. We need more representation out there for our presence to be known and felt. We really want to create something tangible that has a long legacy for future generations,” Houston and Posey said in a joint statement.

O’Bannon added: “We knew REVOLT had ‘SoundCheck,’ an online content series, and thought it would be cool to bring a live audience element to it by bringing the ‘SESSIONS,’ ‘SoundCheck’ and Black Voices families together in honor of Black Music Month and [with] the social distancing mandate being lifted.” With future goals of traveling shows and creating familial spaces within the community, the guys are hopeful to spread good music and good energy across the country.

As for the performances, talent showed out. Having artists from various cities, the crowd got to experience an array of sounds including a real-life rendition of the now-viral video of Lovett beautifully whistling the melodies to his song “Ruby” — he named this moment his favorite of the night. “The crowd didn’t know what to expect but they loved it!” he said.

The beautiful songstress Riley got the crowd moving with her upbeat song “BGE (Big Girl Energy)” while Bunn took us to Decatur, Georgia with her sweet sounds and unconventional R&B melodies. To cap off the performances, singer Dixon got the crowd back on their feet by creating that family reunion vibe. “It was great to see everybody enjoying themselves and the music,” he told us. “We deserve that after this past year. I think everybody has been looking for a good time.”

A final DJ set from Red Cup Nation got the party jumping before closing the doors at Soho Works for a night well spent amongst community and music. Stay tuned for more episodes of “SoundCheck” to find your next favorite artist on the rise!
