After 20 years in prison, No Limit rapper McKinley “Mac” Phipps was finally released from prison and has since been enjoying his newfound freedom.

On June 23, he informed his followers that he was back home while giving thanks to all those who supported him throughout his years-long prison stint. “It feels great to be home!” he wrote alongside a photo of him sitting on a couch. “Thank you to all the fans and friends who’ve shown me love over the years.”

Days later, on June 27, he shared another picture. In the photo, he’s seen posing all smiles in front of a statue with his arms spread in joy. “Freedom!” read the caption to the post.

Mac’s happiness comes as no surprise following his recent prison release. For years, the rapper maintained he was behind bars for a crime he didn’t commit. However, despite claims that he was innocent, he was forced to serve time on manslaughter charges in connection with the death of Barron C Victor Jr. — a 19-year-old who was fatally shot at a nightclub in Slidell, Louisiana where he was having one of his shows.

Fortunately, in 2015, things began to work in Mac’s favor. Witnesses who previously identified him as the gunman admitted that authorities coerced them into testifying against the No Limit star. The recanted statements and admissions from a man who claimed to the shooter brought the case to national attention, and Mac proceeded to file for clemency.

His first attempt failed, but in April, just months after the Louisiana Board of Pardons and Committee determined he was eligible for immediate parole, he was granted an early release. Per the board, his good behavior, mentorship to young inmates and his educational pursuits contributed to the commutation of his 30-year sentence.

The news of Mac’s newfound freedom has since been met with welcoming posts from supporters, including members of his No Limit family. “Welcome home Mac,” Silk the Shocker wrote next to a picture of him and Mac. Master P also shared some words to the recently-released emcee, writing, “Welcome home soldier! @macphippsofficial Let God guide you on this next chapter.”
