This past weekend, Fredo decided to surprise the masses with a new track titled “Independence Day Freestyle,” a nearly four-minute drop that sees the West London emcee rapping about past struggles and current wealth and fame:

“I use to do the nights for two bills, now I make sure my blocks straight before the news spill, before all this rose gold, I really had a few steels, now the chain froze, watch froze, and I’m due chills, I don’t give a fuck about how you feel, put me on a beat like this, shit gettin’ too real, I said it’s no more freestyle, and that was true still, but if I don’t go this hard, then tell me, who will?/”

The accompanying clip for “Independence Day Freestyle” comes courtesy of Suave and keeps things very straight to the point, with black-and-white footage of Fredo and his heavily-numbered crew in what’s presumably a studio. Fredo stands squarely in the center of a room with a single microphone, showing off plenty of jewelry and he delivers his bars to the viewers.

Back in January, Fredo released his sophomore studio album Money Can’t Buy Happiness, an 11-track body of work with additional assists from Summer Walker, Dave, Young Adz, and the late Pop Smoke. The project has since proved to be a success, peaking at the number two position on the UK Albums chart. Between that project and his 2019 debut LP Third Avenue, Fredo’s kept busy contributing to other top quality cuts, including Young T and Bugsey’s “Bully Beef,” Kvssy’s “Granted,” and Mist’s “House Party.” Thanks to a past revelation on social media, many now await a joint project alongside North London’s Nines, which will hopefully be making landfall sometime this year.

In the meantime, you can press play on Fredo’s “Independence Day Freestyle” below.
