On Friday (April 9), rap legend DMX passed away. The news rocked fans and members of the hip hop community, who flooded social media with tributes to the late emcee. Among the many posts was a heartfelt message by Eve, who worked for years alongside DMX, a fellow member of their music group, Ruff Ryders.

“#mydog I know that you are in the place of peace you deserve,” she wrote. “I will be forever grateful to have known you. You were one of the most special people I have ever met. Full of Humour, talent, wisdom and love, and most of all loyalty.”

“This world has lost a REAL ONE, but the heavens have gained an ANGEL,” she continued. May you Rest.”

While in Ruff Ryders, X and Eve appeared on a few songs together. The late star featured on her singles “Dog Match” and “Scream Double R.” She collaborated with him on his 2003 hit “We’re Back” and the more notable “Ruff Ryders’ Anthem.”

DMX was hospitalized last week Friday (April 2) after he suffered a drug overdose that resulted in a nearly-fatal heart attack. He fought for days in the ICU department at the White Plains hospital, where his loved ones visited him and gathered with fans to pray for his recovery.

After several tests were conducted earlier this week, results showed he made no improvement. His liver, kidneys and lung function eventually shut down, resulting in his recent death.

Following his passing, a slew of hip hop artists including Swizz Beatz and Consequence took to social media to express their condolences.

“I had the honor of [Hype Williams] inviting me to chill on the set of ‘BELLY’ for the scene at Justin’s and in The Tunnel. You were the hungriest nigga in New York at the time and destined for stardom,” Consequence wrote. “Rest in Heaven DMX.”

Swizz posted a few pictures of X alongside the caption, “DMX 4 LIFE. You changed my life King!”
