It’s been a few years since Tierra Whack blessed the world with her critically acclaimed debut album Whack World, a multi-layered body of work featuring 15 one-minute songs and accompanying visuals to match. Since then, she’s liberated a slew of loose singles, including “Only Child, “Clones, “Gloria,” “Wasteland,” “Unemployed,” “Dora,” “Peppers and Onions,” and “Feel Good.” She’s also delivered show-stealing contributions to tracks like Lil Yachty’s “T.D,” Alicia Keys’ “Me x 7,” Flying Lotus’ “Yellow Belly,” and Beyoncé’s “My Power,” the last of which appeared on The Lion King: The Gift.

Today, he makes a big return with “Link,” a J Melodic-produced number that sees Whack singing about making a connection with a special someone:

“You should come and build me, yeah, I think we should link up, we can link, we can build, we can talk, we can chill, we can do what ya like, LEGO to my city, queen of the block, I can make it stack… it won’t ever drop, creating something special, orange, green, yellow, purple, red, building up an empire, taking over the entire, world…/”

Given previous drops, it’s no surprise that the accompanying video for “Link” breaks the typical mold for any genre. Directed by Cat Solen, the clip begins with Tierra Whack and other colorful (alien?) collaborators building a spaceship out of LEGOs, which ends up resembling intertwined chameleons. Whack then boards the ship and sets off on a one-way ticket “to space forever” — during the trip, it looks as if she has regrets, attempting to cancel her trip. The clip ends with said vessel crash-landing at its original starting point, with parts of Whack on the ground and still in space — which turns out to be a room in a house shared by the previous characters. Needless to say, there’s a lot of layers to break down here.
