In regards to the music, when you hear the name Detroit, some of the names you first think of are probably Eminem, Big Sean, Royce Da 5’9, and Tee Grizzley. Rightfully so, they are all dope in their own respective ways and are great representations of the city. However, one name that always seems to get overlooked is Payroll Giovanni. He’s been pretty slept on since his arrival on the scene back in 2015 with his solo debut mixtape Stack Season. While he was already somewhat in people’s conversation back then, it was when he linked with the amazing Cardo to release their collab mixtape Big Bossin Vol. 1 in 2016. While he continues to make a name for himself in the industry, Payroll and Cardo join forces again for the release of their new effort Another Day Another Dollar.

While many aren’t hip just yet, the Detroit rapper’s performance on Big Bossin Vol. 1 was top tier from the intro to the outro. His delivery and persona compliment each other very well and this project was where it was showcased clearly. It was only right that Cardo blessed Payroll with more infectious production for this project. Their chemistry in the studio together is as solid as solid can be — Another Day Another Dollar is another one for the books.

In an interview with Billboard, Payroll spoke on his experience being a Detroit artist working with a producer like Cardo: “Detroit and California have like the same type of sounds, like musically. That’s just people from Detroit traveling to Cali, people from Cali traveling to Detroit — They pick up game and the sounds are kind of similar. So, when he was sending me the beats, I didn’t look at it like it’s a Cali beat. It sounded like Detroit beats to me. But I wouldn’t call it like gangster music. I would just call it, you know, some hustle motivation type music.”
