In a weird turn of events, the United States State Department’s website posted that Donald Trump’s presidency will be ending tonight (Jan. 11) at 7:40 p.m. There has been no further explanation surrounding the sudden message and the site is now experiencing a lot of technical difficulty — presumably because of the amount of people who began going to the site to see the surprising message for themselves. Trump’s term was actually expected to end on Inauguration Day, Jan. 20.

As the entire world is aware of by now, last week was arguably one of the worst weeks in American history thanks to pro-Trump rioters storming the United States Capitol in an attempt to stop congress from certifying President-elect Joe Biden’s election victory. These Trump supporters even marched to a number of other different state buildings across the country that same day, as well.

Since then, there have been reports of private discussions being held by government officials who want Trump impeached and immediately removed from the office for inciting these riots.

This morning, we also learned that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told Democrats that the House will move forward with Trump’s impeachment proceedings if Vice President Mike Pence doesn’t invoke the 25th amendment and make the deadline to remove the current president himself.

“History will rightly remember today’s violence at the Capitol, incited by a sitting president who has continued to baselessly lie about the outcome of a lawful election, as a moment of great dishonor and shame for our nation,” Former President Barack Obama said in reaction the Capitol riots.

“Republican leaders have a choice made clear in the desecrated chambers of democracy,” he said. “They can continue down this road and keep stoking the raging fires. Or they can choose reality and take the first steps toward extinguishing the flames. They can choose America.”
