The 2021 Grammys nominees were officially announced on Tuesday (Nov. 24), and the rap and R&B categories — for the most part — received a lot of praise from fans of the genres.

From Beyonce, Roddy Ricch, Megan Thee Stallion, Jhene Aiko, Jay Electronica, and countless of other artists, things are looking good for the award show’s festivities, which will take place on Sunday, Jan. 31.

One person who is especially excited about being nominated for a Grammy is Freddie Gibbs. His and The Alchemist’s joint album Alfredo, which dropped back in May, is now nominated in the category of Best Rap Album. Other projects in the category include D Smoke’s Black Habits, Jay Electronica’s A Written Testimony, Nas’ King’s Disease, and Royce Da 5’9”’s The Allegory.

Since his LP dropped earlier this year, Gibbs said on a number of occasions that it was so good that it was going to be nominated at the coveted music awards ceremony. Now that he’s been proven right, the rapper is gloating all over social media — and we’re not mad at him.

“I told y’all niggaz,” he tweeted today after hearing the great news. “I actually told y’all last year too.” Check out those messages below.

Poking more fun at the nomination announcement, Gibbs added: “Ohhhhhh I need a bad ass Grammy date.”

Rap fans on social media instantly began joking about the fact that Gibbs is now going to rub his nomination in Jeezy’s, who also dropped an album last week after his Verzuz with Gucci Mane, face. The two haven’t been on good terms for many years and they even had a minor conflict before the IG Live showdown took place.

In his new single “Therapy For My Soul,” Jeezy name-dropped the Indiana MC. “If One-Five wasn’t my dawg, I would’ve touched them/When that shit went down with Gibbs, I couldn’t trust ‘em,” Jeezy rapped. “Invested my hard-earned money, tied up my bread/But he gon’ try to tell you I’m flawed, that’s in his head/It’s happening just the way that I said it, good on your own/And if I’m honest nothin’ gangsta about you, leave this alone.”

Gibbs then responded on Twitter: “BMF put u in a headlock in front of me…U gotta come harder than this snow flake.” In another tweet, he added, “@jeezy u big mad.”
