XXXTentacion’s father had a dream about the late rapper, and it prompted the start of a heartfelt message posted on his Instagram Story.

“I saw you in a dream last night,” Dwayne Onfrey wrote to his son. “You were singing a new song I’ve never heard. Your voice sounded more mature. You looked a bit taller in the dream as well. I noticed a couple things about you. You were dressed as you were as a kid: You had on a black hoodie zipped all the way down and [as] usual you had on no under shirt. What I also noticed though is that you were happy. When you would come spend time with me in WEST PALM BEACH, I used to chase you to go put on a shirt.”

XXX was fatally shot in his vehicle outside the RIVA Motorsports in Deerfield Beach, FL on June 18, 2018. In his tribute to the rapper, Onfrey informed him of the ways the world has since changed, mentioning the unprecedented Coronavirus pandemic and the name and existence of the rapper’s son, Gekyume — who he said made him a grandfather at an early age. He claimed that he mourns even on his happiest days, and he let XXX know that his siblings miss him very much. Onfrey ended with a message about the impact of the rapper’s music on the young generation.

“Kids look up to as this generation[‘s] Tupac or John Lennon or Kurt [Cobain],” he said. “You’ve inspired a whole new generation, but they too are sad and miss you every day. They help to pick me up each day with their inspirational words of encouragement.”

The four men allegedly involved in XXX’s murder are currenty in police custody at the Broward County Sheriff’s Office in Fort Lauderdale, FL where they are all awaiting trial.
