PJ Morton and Tobe Nwigwe previously joined forces earlier this year for their song “Ashamed,” and now they present their listeners with a new music video to enhance the song’s message. The video opens with a soulful PJ Morton on the keys as he sings about the painful reality that nothing has changed over the years:

“You should be ashamed, that nothing’s really changed. And it’s your ignorance that won’t give me a chance. Because of the color of my skin, you won’t listen. And after all this time, you won’t change your mind. And you should be ashamed, what more will it take. Before you realize your mistakes? You’ve got it all wrong, and you’ve been wrong all along. Now look where we are. We haven’t healed one scar, oh and after all this time. You won’t change your mind. You should be ashamed.”

“Ashamed” was originally titled “You Should Be Ashamed” and was featured on the EMPIRE label’s compilation album Voices for Change, Vol. 1, created in the name of social justice.  The music video is directed by Nwigwe and Nate The Director, and was shot and edited by Justin Stewart. Most recently, Tobe Nwigwe also delivered a powerful performance for the BET Hip-Hop Awards. For his part, Nwigwe gave two next-level performances of “Try Jesus” and “Eat.”

In a previous interview, PJ Morton explained his definition of success and if he feels he has reached that level in his own career yet:

“My definition of success now is doing exactly what I wanna do. My definition of success is freedom, and I feel like I accomplished that. It’s crazy that I was trying to be strategic and craft songs that could be big on the radio, you know… This is the record that I didn’t strategically say anything like that—not musically, at least. Since my very first album, it’s the one that’s really gotten the most attention and the most accolades. I feel like there’s more work to do, always, but as far as peace of mind and freedom and doing exactly what I wanna do, I do think I’ve reached that success. I feel very blessed.”
