The body of a 25-year-old aspiring rapper who had been missing for over a week was found in his friend’s trunk after he got into a car crash on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 25).

According to the Miami Herald, Miami-Dade police believe Robert Deupree Avery Coltrain, who is also 25 years old, shot and killed Brian Trotter, who disappeared from Virginia on Oct 17. Coltrain has been charged with second-degree murder and illegal transport of human remains and was taken into custody at a Miami-Dade jail on Monday (Oct. 26).

Trotter was trying to make a name for himself in the world of hip hop and his rap alias was “Kent Won’t Stop.” He was friends with Coltrain for more than 10 years and the two played sports and promoted their music together.

According to authorities, Coltrain drove his car to pick up the victim from his home he shared with his father. “I heard a knock on the door. It was Rob. He was very reluctant to talk to me. I noticed he was acting really strange,” said Trotter’s father. “Usually, Rob comes in the house. This time, he was real distant and nervous and antsy.”

The pair claimed they were going to take pictures in Washington D.C. and Trotter’s dad said he assumed it was for their music. He said he gave his son a hug before he left and they both said, “I love you.”

Once Trotter didn’t return home, his family filed a missing persons report. They kept calling Coltrain, but he told them conflicting stories about what happened. He said that he dropped Trotter off in D.C. and another friend picked him up.

For the last week, Trotter’s friends and family pleaded for his safe return on social media as Coltrain drove south to Florida. On Sunday, his vehicle was involved in a car accident. When authorities had his car towed to a nearby mall parking lot, they noticed a foul odor coming from his vehicle’s trunk. They discovered Trotter’s body “wrapped in a piece of fabric and in an advanced stage of decomposition,” according to the police report.

Coltrain refused to speak with homicide detectives, but they overheard his conversation with his sister on the phone. He apologized to her and told her that Trotter was killed in Virginia.

“No one can understand what happened,” said Trotter’s father. “Hopefully, police can shed a light on what made a friend of over 10 years decide to commit something like that.”
