T.I. wants everyone to give Ice Cube the benefit of the doubt when it comes to his alleged involvement with Donald Trump and his “Platinum Plan” for Black America.
The “Whatever You Like” emcee sat down for a virtual interview on Power 106 and opened up about the criticism Cube has faced in recent days. “You have to give Cube the benefit of his reputation,” he said. “If we ain’t never known or seen or caught Cube on no bullshit — doing no tap dancing and bending over backwards for no white supremacist — why you think he gon start right now 35, 40 years in? Why?”
“You’ve got to give him the credit of his credibility,” T.I. continued. “And if you ain’t never known him to be on bullshit before, why you gon just automatically put him in the mix of some bullshit now?”
Earlier this week, Cube faced backlash after Katrina Pierson, Trump’s senior advisor, took to Twitter to thank him for helping create the plan. “Shoutout to @icecube for his willingness to step up and work with @realDonaldTrump Administration to help develop the #PlatinumPlan,” she tweeted. “Leaders gonna lead, haters gonna hate. Thank you for leading!”
She also tweeted a link to the 4-year plan which included increasing access to capital in Black communities by creating three million more jobs for the Black community — 500,000 of them being Black-owned businesses.
Cube clarified his stance with Trump and said that he did not endorse him or Biden. He also said that he was not being used by Trump, despite what people believe.
“I know people have their thoughts on I’m being used,” he said. “I’m not being used because I walked in there, I had the meetings and I spoke. I’ve never met Trump, I’ve never been to the White House. I talked to both campaigns — like I said I would. I have a Contract With Black America (CWBA) that both parties are going to have to get with. We can’t depend on one party to bring this through, it’s too broad. Both parties are going to have to get with it.”
