Consequence has been diagnosed with lupus.

The rapper broke the news during a listening event for his upcoming Things Are Different Now EP.

Consequence — who already had Type II diabetes — said he noticed something was wrong back in October when he developed a crink in his neck after his 9-year old son Caiden jumped on his back. He assumed the pain would subside, but it got more intense.

The rapper’s primary physician prescribed him with muscle relaxers that had a counter effect and began spreading inflammation throughout his body.

“I was already Type II diabetic with no diabetes symptoms,” he said. “I was subject to anything autoimmune-related. I went to Paris — I don’t want this to sound like rich nigga problems because I almost died — but I’m flying from one jet from Los Angeles to Paris and Paris to Los Angeles, and I get to L.A. and I can’t fucking move. So I go to urgent care — and this is when COVID[-19] was first shaking — so I was was like, ‘Fuck, maybe I got COVID[-19].’”

He confessed he initially rejected the COVID[-19] test, but as his symptoms worsened, he called Kanye West, and his wife Kim Kardashian helped him set up a visit at an urgent care center in New York where he was given a swab test and discovered he had lupus.

“All my cells were on fire, and that’s why I couldn’t move and shit,” he said. “I was fucked up, never in my life fucked up like this, but God’s will is God’s will. Eventually, it was discovered what it was.”

“I have what Dilla had and what Phife [Dawg] had as a combo Happy Meal,” Consequence said of his lupus and diabetes diagnoses. “To be honest with you, I’m learning every day. I didn’t even know I would get my way back. I didn’t know I would get my strength back at all. So, I’m definitely in a space where I’m taking everything literally a step at a time, a day at a time.”

Consequence said he could only speak in a faint whisper for about two months and for the first time, he feared he was going to die. He admitted he was stripped of his confidence, but credits his son as his motivation to keep going.

“He’s really my blessing from God,” he told HipHopDX. “When it got stupid for me, he was right here like, ‘Yo, come on, you just gotta get your muscles back. Come on daddy, you can do it.’ He’s my little superstar … he definitely re-charged the Tesla for me.”

When Consequence posted a photo with his son back in August, he said he was “body shamed,” but he’s since gained weight and is focused on taking his medication, going to the gym and making music.
