Kim Kardashian-West is on a mission to help free incarcerated rapper C-Murder, the brother of Master P and ex-boyfriend of R&B singer Monica.
Kardashian will join Monica in the effort along with Human Rights Attorney Jessica Jackson and REFORM Alliance Policy Director Erin Haney. She announced her intentions on Sunday (Aug. 16) via Twitter.
“On January 18, 2002 a tragedy occurred when a young man was killed,” the prison reform advocate tweeted. “The next day Corey Miller was arrested for the murder. The jury convicted Corey 10-2 and he was sentenced him to life in prison. If his trial was today, the jury would have had to be unanimous for him to be convicted...Since his trial, witnesses have recanted, new evidence of his potential innocence has come to light, and there are claims of jurors being pressured into voting to convict...True justice for the young man requires that the person who actually killed him be held responsible and that Corey Miller he returned home to his kids.”

After C-Murder was given a life sentence for the murder of 16-year-old Steve Thomas, his family has maintained his innocence. They cite that there were several missteps taken during the investigation and his trial. Fifteen years after his sentence, he was ordered to pay $1.4 million to Thomas’ family.
“My heart goes out to the family of Steve Thomas,” she added. “I can only imagine how hard this is and my intention is never to open up this painful wound but to help find the truth behind this tragedy.”

The former No Limit artist showed his appreciation for Kardashian’s efforts with an Instagram carousel of throwback pictures of Monica and himself when they were together. Monica has always shown her undying support for C-Murder and has been vocal about wanting him to be free.
“Moses when they took me I told you go live your life because you didn’t deserve what the system was about to do to me,” he captioned. “You still stood for me, without me asking created a team that could change the outcome of a very unfair fate!”
Monica pledged to help get him out of prison earlier this month.
For the past couple of years, Kardashian has been using her massive platform to address prison reform in America. In 2018, she helped to free 64-year-old Alice Marie Johnson and last year, she had a role in helping to free 17 inmates in 90 days.
