Back in January, Lil Wayne released his thirteenth studio album Funeral, which earned the New Orleans veteran his fifth number album thanks to 139,000 album equivalent units sold. Presumably looking to keep the momentum going, he returns with a new animated visual from the project for “I Don’t Sleep,” which features assistance from Migos’ member Takeoff and sees the two rapping about drugs, sex, and more over production from the LoopHoles, Bobby “Keyz” Reese, Stonii, and Javar Rockamore:
“Uh, I just popped a ten, I’m in my man cave, lookin’ for some hoes in my DMs, man, I miss Backpage/
Your lil’ ho do spin class at the gym, that b***h in bad shape, my lil’ ho said she gon’ spend a band, I like it ratchet/
Did some cocaine with these b***hes, like it fancy, snort the cocaine off their t***ies in my mansion/
I’m gettin’ naked with these b***hes, I’m on Addy and Cialis, breakin’ records in these b***hes…/”
The clip matches the song’s subject matter and fills the screen with cartoon versions of pills, women, cups of lean, and more. If you don’t blink, viewers can even catch the real life Wayne in the middle of shredding on his skateboard at the end.
It’s hasn’t just been all fun and games for Weezy — the Young Money head honcho has also been using his platform to raise awareness about the racism and police brutality that’s been taking place in America. Last week, he delivered comments on an episode of “Young Money Radio” in regards to George Floyd, which received some negative response:
“Some people put a tweet out and they think they did something… Some people wear a shirt and they think they did something. What you gonna do after that? Did you actually help the person? Did you actually help the family? Did you actually go out there and do something?”
More recently, he — along with his guest Killer Mike — clarified the comments, explaining how the graphic footage that many of us now see through camera footage is nothing new to him given his upbringing.
