Lil Wayne says his music was “always” leaked after leaving a CD in the car

“That’s how it always happened, bro, to me,” the legendary rapper told Drake.

Artists have been plagued by music leaks for decades. Thankfully, with new technology and secured sharing platforms, there are now more ways for rappers to send each other verses without the potential for an unreleased snippet to make its way to the internet. However, back in the days of CDs, Lil Wayne says he would repeatedly fall victim to music leaks after leaving a CD playing in his car.

“When you find out how it actually got leaked out, it was always, for me, it was always getting my cars washed with the CD being left in the player,” Weezy told Drake during a recent episode of “Young Money Radio.” The former labelmates were discussing Drake’s new Dark Lane Demo Tapes mixtape, which is partially comprised of leaked tracks.

“That’s how it always happened, bro, to me. A chauffeur or a valet guy or something,” Wayne continued. “You know when the valet got to get in the car and they ‘bout to go park it and they hear what’s playing and they be like, ‘Oh what’s this?’”

“That’s damn bold, by the way, to steal a CD out the whip,” Drake remarked. “Like, as if you’re not gonna get back in there.”

“I would’ve done the same thing,” Wayne laughed. “If I heard some new Drizzy, I’m sorry blood, but I gotta getchu. I’m ‘bout to tell you, ‘I don’t know what happened, sir.’”

Elsewhere in the chat, Wayne and Drake also speculated about potentially joining forces on some music in the near future.

“Now, something about me and Drizzy’s songs that we do together, we are both perfectionists,” Wayne explained. “So, it’s not like you send me a joint, I’m going to throw a verse on there. We got a standard we got to live up to, we got a track record and a legacy we gotta always protect.”

“Well look, on that note, you have my word as a man and Mack [Maine], you can hold me to this when we get off the phone, I’m going to be in the studio,” Drake responded. “What’s today? Friday? I’m going to be in the studio all weekend. By midweek or maybe Monday night, you will have at least two joints.”
