Given his near-hobbit status, anytime a Frank Ocean release takes place is almost considered a holiday. Since he released the chart-topping Blonde in 2016, the reclusive artist has peppered us with singles here and there — including “Biking” with Tyler, The Creator and JAY-Z, “DHL,” and “In My Room.” Many of his surprises came via his Blonded Radio show on Apple Music’s Beats 1 platform.
Today, he delivers not one, but two new melancholy tracks for his fans — “Dear April” and “Cayendo.” “Dear April” features production from Ocean and Daniel Aged, and sees the Odd Future alum singing his heart out about the reality of a changing relationship:
Dear April, the only face in the crowd that I know, dear April, are you watchin’ him? Are you watchin’ him dance?/
Dear April, we were safe for a while, we were safe as the years flew by, ff you could take two strangers/
Lead them left and right, at a certain place and timeLike you took these strangers, and our two strange lives/
And made us new, and took us through, and woke us up, I believe that no matter what it makes us do/
The second track, “Cayendo,” is sung partially in Spanish, and keeps with the same vibe as the former, with Ocean spilling his heart out to someone who isn’t reciprocating his feelings:
You stood me up, you lay me down, you know too much, I can’t be proud/
I still really, really love you, yes I do, when I still really, really love you, like I do/
If you won’t, then I will, if you can’t, then I will Is it love to keep it from you?/
Press play on both tracks below. Hopefully, this means that a new Frank Ocean album is on the way.
