The woman who is the inspiration behind the hit film Hustlers wants Jennifer Lopez’s production company to pay up.

Samantha Barabash, known professionally as Samantha Foxx, became an adult entertainment host at 19 and later a hostess at Scores Gentlemen’s Club in Chelsea, New York and Hustlers Club in Manhattan. Many of their biggest spending clients were highly paid Wall Street brokers.

Barbash was on probation for five years after pleading guilty of conspiracy, assault and grand larceny. She’s now claiming that Lopez and producers did not secure the rights to her life story. In a September 2019 interview with the Scoop B Radio Podcast, Barbash said that 87% of the film was false.

Barbash is claiming they used her likeness and her story without permission and defamed her in the process. She claims in her suit that producers approached her to get her consent on the movie and she turned them down, because they didn’t offer her enough money. Despite her saying no, they made the film anyway, and booked Lopez to play the character based on Barbash.

Barbash says the character in the movie is portrayed as “using and manufacturing illegal substances in her home where she lived with her child.” She says it’s untrue and offensive.

Shortly after the film’s release, Barbash sent a letter to STX Entertainment, the studio who made the film, demanding that they pay up for using Barbash’s likeness, personality, biography and identity in connection with the promotion of the film.

According to the letter, obtained by TMZ, Barbash’s lawyer Bruno Gioffre reminds the studio Barbash “unequivocally rejected all offers to be included in the film.” Barbash wants STX to resolve “the flagrant violation of her rights.”

Barbash is suing Lopez’s production company, Nuyorican Productions, for $40 million: $20 million in compensatory damages and $20 million in punitive damages.
